The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is an unmatched SUV, and one of the most innovative creations in past few years, representing some interesting possibilities for the future of luxury SUV’s.
Just saying the words Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a bit of a mouthful, but some SUV’s deserve extravagant names, and this one is just the right example!
Many SUV manufacturers have targetted the off roading fan base, which has left many of the higher priced SUVs out of magazines like Off road magazine, and out of the famous off road competitions seen all over the united states, and the world for that matter. Who can blame this style of thinking when you can fix up a used GMC Yukon into an offroad monster for less than $20,000. Finally the luxury class cars are following in suite, increasing handling and performance options and gaining more popularity as qualified off road machines.
The new Land Rover Range Rover Sport offers a tremendous power increase from a supercharged HSE model that boasts almost 400 horsepower! With that kind of power the possibilities are endless. Whether the owner of this Land Rover beast wants to compete off road, or at the local drag strip it’s certainly a step in the right direction.
Even the HSE Standard model has 300 horsepower which is no slouch, the main problem is that the cars weight hinders much of the vehicle’s performance as well as the fuel economy, but where else can you get a luxury class vehicle with the options for under $70k. Compare that to the Porsche Cayenne for example at over $120,000.
It comes with 6 speed automatic gear-shift with 3 options: automatic, sport, and manual shift which Land Rover labels “CommandShift” mode. Happily the new Land Rover is equiped with much better suspension than its counterparts. With the company’s Dynamic Response Suspension System which is standard on both the supercharged HSE and the standard HSE. You can actually feel the system kick in when the roads get more demanding.
Since the debut of the Range Rover Sport in 2006 it hasn’t really changed much from year to year until 2009 with a signifiant boost in handling and performance. In fact I would say that it is finally worthy of travelling off road with it’s standard 4 wheel drive system and two-speed transfer case. Electronically controlled of course, and the torque is managed dynamically and transferred from axel to axel depending on the demands of the terrain. The control system can change throttle response, gears, ride height, and differentials all automatically based on road conditions (or off-road conditions).
All in all, Land Rover means luxury and this new Range Rover Sport is no exception. Navigation, satellite, security 0 you name it, and you’ll find it on this luxury SUV – no points for guessing that the LR is only going to get better in years to come.
